The ring lost The Greatest and then the rink lost Mr. Hockey. The former won a gold medal at the Olympics when Dwight Eisenhower served as commander in chief and lost the lineal heavyweight championship for the last time a few weeks before Ronald Reagan won the presidency. When the latter debuted, Bing Crosby generated the most box office; when he retired Burt Reynolds did. They remained great when the guys they started with no longer remained.
